Switching to entrepreneurship is not always the answer

I was exploring for a fulfilling life and career because I was tired of feeling stuck and bored with the same old routine.

Some of you can relate, waking up every morning with a heavy heart to do the same old thing again. The feeling has always been the same — and I never liked the feeling of being disengaged.

And I told myself that maybe there was something wrong with me.

Let us rewind a little bit. Material success fooled me.

The more I moved up the corporate ladder, the more I yearn for having purchasing power. My desires…

Things that you should do and not do when launching a start-up

I was a man on a mission several years ago.

My greatest assignment back then was to discover on how to find a fulfilling occupation. I would always listen to TED talks while on my way to the office with the hope of searching for the most satisfying work to do for the rest of my existence.

That expedition led me to ponder more about human explorations on interest, passion and finding purpose.

Back then, I came across the idea of building a tech start-up company. …

Welcome to my page! Dennis de Silva here.

Born 1981 in Ventura, California, and currently residing in the Philippines.

I am married with two lovely kids.

In 1974, My parents decided to fly to the United States to work there and live a better life. My dad was a recognized Certified Public Accountant both in the Philippines and the State of California.

My mom took up medical school in Manila and served briefly as a nurse assistant — and later decided to become a stay-at-home mom.

Time flew so fast until my parents realized that my eldest brother and two…

Not every billionaire pays attention to their plants and keeps them alive.

When I see relationships fall apart, it makes my heartbreak. It is painful to see their sweetness and how beautiful they are in public for so many years, only to learn later that the pair have called it quits and are ready to move on to the next stage of their lives.

Melinda Gates, the wife of billionaire Bill Gates, announced on her Instagram account on May 3 that they had agreed to end their marriage after more than two decades together.

People commonly believe that building a prominent reputation is reserved for the arrogant. There is a distinction between being too proud and throwing yourself out there. It is not about blending — but about differentiating, as a friend once told me.

Building a brand online is critical for everyone, and many people still underestimate the importance of being active online.

The importance of maintaining a positive online identity stems from the fact that it aids in the development of credibility, authority, and a positive picture in the eyes of others.

After meeting someone in person, I make it a point…

If you are breathing, there is still hope

I am already old; I will merely forget about it and move on, an elderly said to me.

When it comes to realizing unfulfilled dreams, these are the lines I frequently hear when I speak with men. Well, I will be forty in a few months, but I know that if you let go of dreams at any age, it means you lack motivation and will eventually waste the remaining days of your life. Just going through the motions of the days makes me bored, stuck, and useless to those around me.

Some people merely abandon their dreams because they…

There is no need to make it so complicated

People are eager to figure out and plan for the best life possible.

It is the reason why we explore and read a lot — as if there is one secret formula towards that route. But the reality is there is none. Some of us have wasted a lot of money and time looking for that one big thing, only to discover later that it was the other way around.

We can be smart with our future undertakings — if we have a clear understanding of how the world operates. …

Where digital makeover is not always the answer

We are all drowning from this global plague. The impact of Covid-19 has materially crushed our lives and many businesses.

When I walk around the business district, the previously jam-pack food chains are empty. The fashion and apparel shops that were once alive turned into ghost towns as you see staff sitting in one corner observing the number of people entering the store mall vicinity.

On the other end, essential goods are thriving here in the Philippines. And it gives more job opportunities to motorcycle riders who move back and forth for point-to-point deliveries. …

Where trimming down costs as the only option is limited

Most of the financial programs that I have attended only teach about cutting expenses.

They say, “Live below your means.” Simple advice — but people still find it hard to practice it.

Irresponsible spending is either a psychological or economic issue. Whatever the reason is, people do not learn. To manage your expectations, you will keep hearing this reminder repeatedly because of the ill-money behavior of the many.

The principle of trimming down your cost applies to those who are earning but just lacking self-discipline. We need to be mindful that there are two ways to increase your cash flow.

Learn how to overcome your villains

Getting lost in a place you are not familiar with is a distressing experience.

Imagine that you are driving in a place late at night — Waze and Google maps can no longer detect where the heck you are — and there are no people to ask around — everything you see is trees and dark clouds.

The build-up of fear intensifies as you worry if you ever find your way to the right track. Your brain begins to shift to what-if scenarios. Like the idea of being tortured or killed by psychos who are just around the corner
