The Phenomenon of Flaunting Wealth on Social Media

Have you ever noticed how some people post their wealth on social media?

From new cars to luxury vacations, it seems — some individuals cannot resist showing off their wealth for the world to see.

Do not get me wrong, when I am happy — I post milestones on my account and share them with my social media circle. I might be judgmental — but some people do this almost every other day to satisfy their agenda.

I would remind myself to appreciate them by reacting and congratulating them by commenting on their newsfeed. But honestly, there are times that I want to vomit.

I remind myself not to judge — to manage my behavior towards them — I try to unfollow (not unfriend) so that I can discipline myself by not seeing them in my newsfeed every day.

I also started unfriending people I do not know — unless they give a proper introduction on Facebook. I leave all the random stranger connection acceptance on LinkedIn for my business.

Going back to some humble flexing friends, why are they doing the flaunting and the bragging?

Let us take a look at why people love to show off their wealth online, to begin with

Validate the performance on stage

One of the main reasons why people post about their wealth on social media is because they crave attention and validation from others.

When someone posts a picture of themselves with a new car, a lavish meal, or an expensive purchase, they are hoping that other people will be impressed by what they have achieved.

It is not just about bragging.

And It is also about wanting others to appreciate and admire your success.

Maybe they have insecurity during their younger years. They feel unwanted — and find the need to satisfy the empty feeling.

When I sense people needing it, I give it — when I get fed up — I let it go or ignore it.
